CAD Technician - Highways (New Graduate)

We are seeking a motivated CAD Technician – Highways (New Graduate) to join a busy infrastructure design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career candidate to develop practical experience across highway, transport and civil engineering projects while working alongside experienced designers and engineers. You will contribute to the preparation of accurate, high-quality technical drawings and models for schemes ranging from local improvements and active travel infrastructure to larger highways and transportation developments.

Your responsibilities will include producing and updating 2D drawings and 3D models using appropriate CAD software; preparing plans, profiles, sections, details and construction drawings; incorporating survey information and engineering data into design outputs; and ensuring drawings comply with relevant standards, specifications and project requirements. You will assist with design changes, drawing revisions, document control and the preparation of technical information for reports, approvals and construction. The role will also involve liaising with engineers, technicians and other disciplines, attending design reviews, responding to feedback and helping to resolve drawing or design queries.

Applicants should have a relevant qualification in civil engineering, highway engineering, engineering design or a related subject, together with a genuine interest in the highways and infrastructure sector. Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar design software is desirable, whether gained through academic projects, placements or work experience. You should have good attention to detail, an organised approach and the ability to interpret technical information accurately. Strong communication and teamwork skills are important, as is a willingness to learn, accept guidance and develop professional knowledge. An understanding of highway design principles, drainage, earthworks or relevant UK standards would be advantageous, but full support will be provided to help you build your technical capability.
