Webber - Field Engineer - Heavy Civil
Field Engineer – Heavy Civil
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Field Engineer to support the delivery of major heavy civil engineering and infrastructure projects. Working closely with site management, design teams and specialist contractors, you will help ensure construction activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required technical and quality standards.
You will be responsible for providing engineering support across the project lifecycle, from initial setting out and surveying through to inspection, testing and completion. The role will suit a technically capable professional who is confident working in a demanding site environment and able to communicate effectively with colleagues, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Set out works accurately using appropriate surveying equipment and approved construction information.
- Review drawings, specifications and method statements, identifying discrepancies and raising technical queries where required.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design, programme, safety and quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, inspection requests, test results and as-built information.
- Assist with the preparation and review of permits, risk assessments, temporary works documentation and work packs.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and site teams to resolve engineering issues and minimise delays.
- Support quantity tracking, progress reporting and the verification of completed works.
- Participate in site inspections, quality audits and commissioning or handover activities.
About you
You will ideally hold a relevant degree, HND or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction or a related discipline, together with practical experience on heavy civil, infrastructure, earthworks, utilities or major structures projects. A strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methods and health and safety requirements is essential.
Applicants should be proficient in reading technical drawings and using surveying equipment, with experience of digital site records and standard engineering software. A methodical approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team are important. A relevant professional membership, site safety qualification and a full driving licence would be advantageous.
