Project Engineer – Heavy Civil
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Engineer to join a major heavy civil engineering project. This role will support the successful delivery of complex infrastructure works, ensuring construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Manager, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives, you will provide technical guidance and coordinate engineering activities across the project. You will be expected to maintain a proactive approach, identify potential issues early and contribute to practical, cost-effective solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review drawings, specifications, construction methodologies and technical documentation.
- Prepare and manage permits, inspection and test plans, quality records and project reports.
- Set out works and verify dimensions, levels and site conditions where required.
- Monitor progress against programme, identifying risks, constraints and opportunities for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with design teams to resolve technical queries and manage design changes.
- Support procurement, subcontractor coordination and the assessment of variations and claims.
- Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality on site.
- Provide technical support to supervisors and construction teams, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved information.
About you
You will ideally hold a degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline, together with proven experience in a Project Engineer or similar role within heavy civil engineering. Experience of infrastructure, earthworks, structures, utilities, highways or other major construction projects would be advantageous.
You should be confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications, managing engineering records and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure are essential. A relevant professional qualification or progress towards chartership would be beneficial, as would experience with engineering and project management software.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-profile civil engineering project while developing your technical and leadership experience in a supportive, delivery-focused environment.
