Commercial Construction Estimator
Commercial Construction Estimator
An experienced Commercial Construction Estimator is required to support the preparation of accurate, competitive tenders for a varied portfolio of construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional who can interpret technical information, assess project costs and contribute to successful bid submissions.
Working closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, subcontractors and suppliers, you will take responsibility for estimating projects from initial enquiry through to final submission. You will review drawings, specifications and schedules, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure all costs are carefully considered and documented.
Key responsibilities
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and scope of works.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities and tender submissions.
- Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify commercial risks, exclusions, assumptions and potential value-engineering opportunities.
- Complete accurate material, labour, plant and subcontractor take-offs.
- Maintain estimating records, databases and cost information.
- Attend site visits, clarification meetings and tender review sessions where required.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure bids are commercially sound and submitted on time.
- Support post-tender negotiations and handover information to the delivery team.
About you
You will have proven experience in a construction estimating role, ideally within commercial, industrial, refurbishment or fit-out projects. A strong understanding of construction methods, procurement processes and current market rates is essential. You should be confident reading technical drawings and specifications, using estimating software and analysing complex project information.
Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy and organisational skills are required, alongside the ability to manage competing deadlines. You will also need strong communication and negotiation skills, a practical approach to problem-solving and the confidence to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in construction estimating or quantity surveying.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating or measurement software.
- Knowledge of relevant construction contracts, regulations and industry practices.
- A relevant qualification is desirable but not essential where equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
