Construction Estimator for Commercial/Government projects
Construction Estimator – Commercial and Government Projects
An experienced Construction Estimator is required to support the preparation of accurate, competitive tenders for a range of commercial and government construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-focused professional who can interpret technical information, assess project risks and develop robust cost plans from initial enquiry through to submission.
Working closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, designers, subcontractors and suppliers, you will play a key role in ensuring that bids are commercially sound, compliant and delivered within agreed timescales. Projects may vary in size, value and complexity, requiring a methodical approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation to identify project requirements.
- Prepare detailed estimates, bills of quantities, cost plans and tender submissions.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring scope alignment and value for money.
- Complete material, labour, plant and preliminaries pricing, including appropriate allowances for risk and inflation.
- Identify omissions, inconsistencies, commercial risks and potential opportunities within tender information.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to clarify technical and commercial requirements.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to post-tender reviews and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all submissions meet client, procurement and relevant regulatory requirements.
About you
You will have proven estimating experience within the construction industry, ideally covering commercial, public-sector or government-funded projects. A sound understanding of construction methods, contract documentation, procurement processes and cost control is essential. Experience with relevant estimating software and strong Microsoft Excel skills will be highly valued.
You should be commercially aware, numerate and confident analysing detailed information. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required, together with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a wider project team. A relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction management or a related discipline is desirable, although equivalent practical experience will be considered.
In return, you can expect a varied workload, professional development opportunities and the chance to contribute to high-quality projects with visible commercial and community impact.
