Planning Project Engineer

We are seeking a motivated Planning Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of complex engineering and construction projects. This role will suit someone who enjoys working with detailed programmes, coordinating multiple stakeholders and turning project requirements into clear, achievable plans.

You will contribute to the planning and control of projects from early development through to completion. Working closely with project managers, engineers, contractors and suppliers, you will help ensure that activities are properly sequenced, resources are available and key milestones are achieved. You will also provide accurate progress information to support informed decision-making and effective project control.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update detailed project programmes using recognised planning software.
  • Coordinate schedules across design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover activities.
  • Monitor progress against agreed baselines, identify delays and assess their potential impact.
  • Prepare progress reports, look-ahead schedules, dashboards and planning presentations.
  • Work with project teams to identify risks, opportunities, dependencies and recovery measures.
  • Support change control, forecasting and the preparation of time-related information for commercial reviews.
  • Attend planning and progress meetings, recording actions and following up on agreed commitments.
  • Promote consistent planning processes, accurate information and effective communication across the project.

About you

You will have experience in project planning, project controls or a similar engineering environment, ideally within construction, infrastructure, energy or another complex delivery sector. A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline would be advantageous.

You should be confident interpreting technical information, analysing programme data and communicating clearly with colleagues at all levels. Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project or comparable planning tools is desirable, along with a sound understanding of critical path analysis, earned value and schedule risk.

In return, you will have the opportunity to develop your planning expertise while contributing to challenging projects in a collaborative and professional environment.
