Structural Water Engineer
Structural Water Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Structural Water Engineer to contribute to the design, assessment and delivery of essential water infrastructure projects. You will work on a varied portfolio involving reservoirs, treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines, flood defence assets and other civil and structural engineering schemes.
Working collaboratively with engineers, technicians, project managers, contractors and clients, you will provide sound technical advice throughout the project lifecycle. The role will involve developing practical, resilient and cost-effective solutions that meet relevant standards, regulatory requirements and health and safety expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review structural designs, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports for water-related infrastructure.
- Assess the condition and performance of existing structures, identifying defects, risks and appropriate remedial works.
- Support feasibility studies, optioneering, outline design and detailed design activities.
- Undertake site inspections, surveys and investigations, recording findings and recommending suitable actions.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Contribute to project planning, fee estimates, risk assessments, progress reporting and quality assurance.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced colleagues and assist with knowledge sharing across the team.
About you
You will be a qualified civil or structural engineer with demonstrable experience in water, wastewater, flood risk management or related infrastructure. Experience of reinforced concrete, steelwork, masonry, earth-retaining structures or hydraulic assets would be advantageous. A strong understanding of UK design standards, construction methods and relevant health and safety legislation is essential.
We are looking for someone who combines sound engineering judgement with clear communication and a practical approach to problem-solving. You should be comfortable managing competing priorities, working independently when required and producing accurate technical deliverables to agreed deadlines.
What is offered
The role offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects with a positive environmental and community impact, alongside professional development and support towards relevant chartership. A competitive salary and benefits package is available, with flexible working arrangements considered.
