Water Distribution System Hydraulic Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Water Distribution System Hydraulic Engineer to support the planning, analysis and optimisation of water supply networks. This role will suit a technically capable professional who can translate complex hydraulic data into practical solutions that improve system performance, resilience and customer service.
You will work across a range of network planning and asset management activities, contributing to the assessment of existing infrastructure and the development of future investment schemes. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, operational teams, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure that designs are robust, compliant and deliverable.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, calibrate and maintain hydraulic models of potable water distribution systems.
- Undertake network analysis, demand assessments, pressure investigations, flow evaluations and capacity studies.
- Identify system constraints and recommend improvements, including mains reinforcement, storage, pumping and control strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, calculations, specifications and investment recommendations.
- Support the planning and design of network upgrades, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations and best practice.
- Review operational data, monitor model performance and investigate leakage, low-pressure and resilience issues.
- Provide technical guidance to colleagues and contribute to project reviews, risk assessments and stakeholder meetings.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in hydraulic modelling and water distribution networks. Professional registration, or active progress towards it, would be advantageous.
You should be confident using industry-standard hydraulic modelling software and able to interpret large and varied datasets. Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What is offered
This is an opportunity to work on technically varied projects that contribute to the safe, efficient and sustainable management of essential water infrastructure.
