You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors and specialist suppliers to ensure that life safety systems are technically compliant, reliable and delivered to the required standards. The position involves contributing throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to installation, testing and handover.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical life safety systems in line with project requirements and applicable British and international standards.
- Prepare technical specifications, schematics, calculations, equipment schedules and design documentation.
- Review contractor proposals, technical submissions, drawings and commissioning documentation.
- Coordinate system interfaces with electrical, mechanical, architectural and building management services.
- Attend design reviews, site inspections, progress meetings and commissioning activities.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and help resolve engineering issues during construction.
- Support risk assessments, compliance reviews and the production of operation and maintenance information.
- Maintain accurate project records and ensure work is delivered within agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
About you
You will hold a degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline. Professional experience in life safety systems, fire protection, building services or a comparable engineering environment is highly desirable. Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations and industry guidance is essential, together with the ability to interpret technical drawings and produce clear engineering documentation.
Strong communication and organisation skills are required, as is the confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team. Experience with design software, document management systems and common engineering tools would be advantageous. A methodical approach, attention to detail and commitment to safety are essential for success in this role.
