Senior Planner
Senior Planner
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team. This role will suit a highly organised planning professional who can manage competing priorities, provide sound technical advice and support the delivery of complex projects from initial concept through to completion.
As Senior Planner, you will lead on the preparation, submission and management of planning applications, ensuring that all work is completed accurately, efficiently and in line with relevant legislation, policies and guidance. You will work closely with internal colleagues, external consultants, local authorities and other stakeholders to achieve positive planning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a varied portfolio of planning projects across different sectors and stages of development.
- Prepare and review planning statements, supporting documents, assessments and consultation responses.
- Coordinate planning applications, appeals, pre-application enquiries and related submissions.
- Provide clear, commercially aware planning advice to project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Build effective working relationships with local planning authorities, consultants and community representatives.
- Monitor changes to planning policy, legislation and emerging development frameworks.
- Review project progress, identify risks and recommend practical solutions to resolve issues.
- Support and mentor junior planners, sharing knowledge and promoting high professional standards.
About you
You will have substantial experience in a planning role, ideally gained within consultancy, development, infrastructure or a public-sector environment. A strong understanding of the UK planning system, development management procedures and relevant policy frameworks is essential.
We are looking for someone who can communicate confidently with a wide range of audiences and present complex information in a clear and persuasive manner. You should be commercially aware, detail-focused and comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
Skills and experience
A relevant degree or professional qualification in town planning, together with membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or progress towards chartership, would be advantageous. Strong report-writing, project-management and negotiation skills are required, alongside proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications.
