Civil Engineer (Highway) - DIRECT HIRE
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer specialising in highways to join a forward-thinking engineering team on a permanent, direct-hire basis. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and delivery of highways and transportation infrastructure projects, working across a range of schemes from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, construction and handover. This role would suit an experienced engineer who is keen to take ownership of technical work while developing their career within a collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing highway designs, drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports in accordance with relevant standards and guidance. You will undertake site assessments, surveys and inspections; contribute to feasibility studies, options appraisals and technical approvals; and liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities, utility providers and other project stakeholders. The role will also involve supporting project managers, monitoring progress and quality, assisting with cost and programme management, and providing technical input during construction. You may also be required to mentor junior colleagues and help ensure that all activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required professional standards.
Applicants should hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering and have professional experience in highway or transportation design. A sound understanding of current highway design standards, drainage principles, construction methods, health and safety requirements and relevant statutory processes is essential. Experience with industry-standard design and drafting software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or equivalent platforms, would be advantageous. You should be able to interpret technical information, solve engineering problems and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. A methodical approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are important. Progress towards, or achievement of, professional membership with a recognised engineering institution would be desirable, along with a full UK driving licence where travel to project sites is required.
