Water Modeling & Planning Squad Leader
We are seeking an experienced Water Modeling & Planning Squad Leader to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing, maintaining, and applying water system models to support long-term planning and operational decision-making. In this role, you will provide technical direction across water supply, distribution, wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure planning activities. You will coordinate priorities, allocate resources, and ensure that modeling outputs are robust, transparent, and aligned with regulatory, environmental, resilience, and service objectives.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing hydraulic and strategic modeling studies; reviewing model assumptions, data quality, calibration, and scenario design; and translating complex analysis into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will guide the preparation of demand forecasts, growth scenarios, investment plans, risk assessments, and drought or emergency response options. The role will also involve establishing quality standards, improving modeling tools and processes, supporting innovation and automation, and ensuring that project deliverables are completed on schedule and to a high professional standard. You will collaborate closely with asset management, engineering, operations, environmental, finance, and planning teams, while managing relationships with consultants, regulators, and external partners.
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, water resources, or a related engineering or scientific discipline, together with substantial experience in water modeling, infrastructure planning, or a comparable technical field. Strong knowledge of hydraulic modeling principles, water resource planning, data analysis, and scenario evaluation is essential. Experience with relevant modeling software, GIS, databases, and analytical tools will be highly valued. You should be an effective people leader who can coach specialists, communicate complex findings clearly, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions under uncertainty. A structured, collaborative, and improvement-focused approach is essential, along with a commitment to safety, sustainability, ethical practice, and delivering resilient water services.
