Water Modeling & Planning Squad Leader
We are seeking an experienced water modelling and planning professional to lead a specialist squad responsible for developing robust, evidence-based solutions across complex water resource and infrastructure challenges. This role will provide technical direction, people leadership and strategic insight, helping to shape long-term investment, operational resilience and service improvement.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team of modellers, planners and technical specialists, fostering a collaborative environment focused on high-quality delivery. Working closely with internal stakeholders, regulators, delivery partners and wider industry contacts, you will translate business and customer needs into effective modelling strategies and practical planning outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of water modelling and planning professionals, supporting capability growth and performance.
- Oversee the development, maintenance and assurance of hydraulic, hydrological and water resource models.
- Direct integrated planning studies, scenario analysis and long-term demand, supply and resilience assessments.
- Provide expert advice on investment decisions, operational risks, regulatory requirements and strategic planning.
- Ensure modelling outputs are robust, transparent, well documented and suitable for technical and executive audiences.
- Manage competing priorities, resources, budgets, risks and dependencies across a varied portfolio of work.
- Promote innovation, data quality, automation and the effective use of emerging analytical tools.
What you will bring
You will have substantial experience in water modelling, water resources planning, hydraulic engineering, hydrology or a closely related discipline, together with a degree or equivalent professional experience. A strong understanding of industry standards, regulatory frameworks, asset planning and climate resilience is essential.
You will be confident leading technical teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels. Excellent communication, structured problem-solving and decision-making skills are required, alongside the ability to explain complex analysis clearly to non-specialist audiences. Experience with industry modelling software, data analysis tools and programme or portfolio management would be advantageous.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the future resilience and sustainability of essential water services while developing people, improving practice and delivering strategic impact.
