Water Infrastructure Planning Engineer

We are seeking a Water Infrastructure Planning Engineer to support the development, assessment and delivery of long-term water and wastewater infrastructure programmes. This role will involve translating growth forecasts, regulatory requirements, asset performance data and customer needs into practical investment plans that strengthen network resilience and service reliability. You will work across multidisciplinary teams to identify infrastructure constraints, assess future demand and develop cost-effective solutions for complex planning challenges.

Key responsibilities will include preparing and updating strategic infrastructure plans, undertaking hydraulic and capacity assessments, and evaluating options for network upgrades, treatment capacity, storage, pumping and associated assets. You will produce technical reports, business cases, investment justifications and planning submissions, ensuring recommendations are supported by robust analysis and aligned with relevant standards and environmental objectives. The role will also involve coordinating inputs from engineering, operations, environmental, commercial and project delivery colleagues, as well as engaging with external stakeholders, regulators and development representatives where required.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in water infrastructure planning, network modelling, asset management or engineering consultancy. Knowledge of potable water, wastewater or integrated water systems is highly desirable, as is experience using hydraulic modelling, GIS, data analysis or project appraisal tools. You will need strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to present technical recommendations to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. A structured approach, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. Professional registration or active progression towards registration is advantageous.
