Senior Planner
Senior Planner
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to join a busy and forward-thinking planning team. This role will suit a qualified planning professional who can provide sound, commercially aware advice and manage a varied caseload across complex development and policy matters.
You will take responsibility for progressing planning applications from initial assessment through to determination, working closely with applicants, consultants, local authorities and other stakeholders. The role requires excellent judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to balance competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a varied portfolio of planning applications, appeals and development proposals.
- Prepare, review and present planning statements, reports and recommendations.
- Provide clear and practical planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess proposals against national, regional and local planning policies.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, consultants and statutory consultees.
- Attend planning committees, public meetings, site visits and stakeholder discussions.
- Monitor changes in legislation, policy and best practice, advising colleagues where appropriate.
- Support the development of junior team members through guidance, mentoring and quality assurance.
About you
You will have substantial experience in a planning environment, ideally with a background in development management, strategic planning, regeneration or a related discipline. A relevant degree and professional membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, or progress towards membership, would be advantageous.
You should be confident interpreting planning legislation and policy, presenting recommendations and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, together with excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
What is offered
This position offers the opportunity to work on varied and meaningful projects within a supportive, collaborative environment. You will receive ongoing professional development, access to challenging work and the chance to make a positive contribution to the quality and sustainability of the built environment.
