EHS Manager, Pre-Operations
EHS Manager, Pre-Operations
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced EHS Manager to lead environmental, health and safety activities during the pre-operations phase of a major project. This role will help establish robust systems, standards and behaviours that support a safe, compliant and successful transition into operations.
Working closely with project, engineering, construction, commissioning and operational teams, you will provide visible leadership and expert guidance across all aspects of EHS. You will ensure that risks are identified and controlled effectively, while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture across employees, contractors and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement the pre-operations EHS strategy, plans, procedures and performance objectives.
- Provide professional advice on regulatory compliance, risk management, emergency preparedness and operational readiness.
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring timely close-out of actions.
- Monitor contractor performance and verify that suitable EHS arrangements, competencies and control measures are in place.
- Support the development of safe systems of work, permit-to-work arrangements, emergency response plans and operational procedures.
- Establish meaningful EHS reporting, including key performance indicators, trend analysis and management updates.
- Deliver briefings, training and engagement initiatives that strengthen ownership and continuous improvement.
- Ensure environmental controls, waste management, pollution prevention and sustainability requirements are effectively managed.
About you
You will be a confident EHS professional with experience in pre-operations, commissioning, construction, engineering or a similarly regulated environment. You should hold a recognised qualification in occupational health and safety, environmental management or a related discipline, together with relevant professional membership where applicable.
Strong knowledge of UK EHS legislation, contractor management and risk-based assurance is essential. Experience establishing systems for a new facility or operational environment would be highly advantageous. You will be organised, commercially aware and able to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels, including senior leadership and delivery partners.
This is an influential role offering the opportunity to shape EHS standards from the outset and make a lasting contribution to operational excellence.
