This is an opportunity to contribute to safe, reliable and efficient rail operations while supporting the delivery of complex projects and ongoing asset improvements.
You will act as a technical authority for signalling matters, working closely with engineering, operations, project delivery and maintenance teams. The role will involve reviewing technical documentation, assessing system performance, managing technical risks and ensuring that all work complies with relevant legislation, standards and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice on conventional and computer-based signalling systems, including interlocking, train detection, points, level crossings and signalling control equipment.
- Lead or support technical reviews, design assurance activities, hazard assessments and engineering change processes.
- Prepare, review and approve technical specifications, schematics, test documentation, method statements and engineering reports.
- Support site testing, commissioning, fault investigation and root-cause analysis, ensuring issues are resolved effectively.
- Monitor contractor and supplier performance, providing technical challenge and ensuring compliance with agreed requirements.
- Maintain accurate asset, configuration and maintenance records, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to engineers and technical colleagues, promoting consistent professional standards.
About you
You will have substantial experience in railway signalling engineering, with a strong understanding of signalling principles, systems integration, testing and operational safety. A relevant engineering qualification or equivalent professional experience is required, alongside a demonstrable ability to interpret technical standards and apply them in practical settings.
Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills are essential. You should be comfortable managing competing priorities, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and making sound technical decisions in a safety-critical environment. Experience of industry assurance processes, project delivery and relevant rail standards would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly, including occasional travel to operational sites and participation in planned out-of-hours activities when required. A commitment to professional development, safety and high-quality engineering practice is essential.
