Traveling Superintendent - Healthcare Construction
Traveling Superintendent – Healthcare Construction
An experienced Traveling Superintendent is required to oversee the delivery of healthcare construction projects across multiple locations. This is a site-based role for a confident construction professional who can lead teams, coordinate subcontractors and maintain high standards of safety, quality and programme performance in live or highly regulated healthcare environments.
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, contractual requirements and relevant building regulations. Projects may include hospital refurbishments, clinical facilities, medical centres and other complex healthcare developments, often within occupied buildings.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and supervise all site activities from mobilisation through to completion and handover.
- Lead subcontractors, suppliers and site teams, setting clear expectations for productivity, workmanship and conduct.
- Manage short-term programmes, logistics, site access, deliveries and sequencing of works.
- Monitor progress against agreed milestones and report risks, delays, variations and resource requirements.
- Ensure strict compliance with health and safety procedures, infection control measures and healthcare-specific site protocols.
- Review drawings, specifications and method statements, identifying discrepancies and resolving technical issues promptly.
- Conduct regular quality inspections and coordinate testing, commissioning, snagging and close-out activities.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, inspections, permits and progress documentation.
About you
You will have substantial experience supervising commercial or healthcare construction projects, with a proven ability to manage complex works in demanding environments. Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety legislation, quality assurance and project controls is essential. Experience working in live healthcare facilities, occupied buildings or similarly sensitive settings would be highly advantageous.
Excellent communication and leadership skills are required, together with the confidence to make decisions, resolve issues and build effective relationships with clients, consultants and trade partners. The role involves regular travel and extended periods away from home, so flexibility and a willingness to work across different project locations are essential.
A recognised construction qualification, relevant site safety certification and demonstrable supervisory experience are expected. A competitive package, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to work on significant healthcare projects are available.
