This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional who can prepare accurate tenders, build strong relationships and contribute to successful project delivery.
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will be responsible for reviewing project documentation, developing competitive bids and coordinating pricing information from internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors. You will work across a range of projects, including highways, drainage, utilities, bulk excavation, foundations, hard landscaping and associated external works.
Key responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documents to identify project requirements and risks.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities and tender submissions.
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Carry out quantity take-offs and verify measurements using relevant software and documentation.
- Develop clear, competitive pricing strategies while maintaining commercial accuracy.
- Identify exclusions, assumptions, programme considerations and potential areas of risk.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, buyers and commercial teams throughout the tender process.
- Attend site visits, tender meetings and client or subcontractor discussions as required.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to post-tender reviews.
About you
You will have proven experience in estimating within heavy civil engineering, groundworks, infrastructure or site development. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, subcontractor pricing and relevant industry standards is essential. You should be confident interpreting technical drawings, working to deadlines and managing several tenders simultaneously.
Excellent numerical, analytical and communication skills are required, together with a methodical approach and strong attention to detail. Experience with estimating, take-off or cost-management software would be advantageous. A relevant qualification in civil engineering, quantity surveying or construction is desirable, although practical industry experience will also be considered.
A competitive salary and benefits package is available, alongside opportunities for professional development and progression within a busy, collaborative construction environment.
