You will oversee a varied portfolio of civil engineering schemes, which may include highways, drainage, transport infrastructure, public realm improvements and other essential community assets. Working closely with contractors, consultants, statutory bodies and internal teams, you will ensure that projects are properly planned, designed, procured and delivered in accordance with relevant standards and legislation.
Key responsibilities
- Manage projects throughout their full lifecycle, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction and handover.
- Prepare and monitor project programmes, budgets, risk registers and performance reports.
- Review technical designs, specifications, drawings and construction proposals to ensure compliance and value for money.
- Appoint, brief and manage consultants, contractors and other professional service providers.
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement, consultations, approvals and statutory requirements.
- Monitor site progress, quality, health and safety, environmental performance and contract compliance.
- Identify and resolve technical, commercial and delivery risks, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate project records and provide clear updates to senior management and elected or community representatives.
About you
You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline, with relevant professional experience delivering public infrastructure or civil engineering projects. Chartered or working towards chartered status is desirable. Experience of contract administration, preferably under NEC or similar forms of contract, is also advantageous.
Strong communication, negotiation and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and make sound, evidence-based decisions. You should be confident working independently while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams. A full driving licence and willingness to travel to project and site locations may be required.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to projects that improve local infrastructure and deliver lasting benefits for communities.
