Civil Superintendent
Civil Superintendent
An experienced Civil Superintendent is required to oversee the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of civil construction activities on a major project. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical and organised construction professional with strong site leadership skills and a proven track record of supervising teams, subcontractors and works packages.
Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Manager and wider delivery team, you will coordinate day-to-day site operations, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, programmes and health and safety requirements. You will provide visible leadership on site, resolve issues promptly and maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise civil construction works, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, concrete, utilities, roads and associated infrastructure.
- Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractor activities to maintain planned progress.
- Interpret construction drawings, technical specifications and method statements, identifying potential issues before they affect delivery.
- Monitor workmanship, quality standards and testing requirements, ensuring non-conformances are recorded and addressed.
- Lead daily briefings, toolbox talks and site coordination meetings.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, permits and site procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, including progress updates, inspections, labour allocation and site reports.
- Support programme planning, productivity improvements and the timely resolution of technical or logistical challenges.
About you
You will have substantial experience in a civil construction supervision role, ideally gained on complex infrastructure, utilities, highways or major building projects. A relevant construction qualification, SMSTS or equivalent site management certification, and a recognised health and safety qualification would be advantageous.
You should be confident managing teams in a fast-paced environment, with excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to read technical information, work collaboratively and maintain high standards of safety and quality is essential. A valid driving licence and willingness to work across active construction sites may also be required.
In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a significant project while working within a professional, supportive and delivery-focused team.
