Site Design Engineer – Water Infrastructure

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Site Design Engineer to support the delivery of major water infrastructure projects. This role will involve developing practical, safe and buildable design solutions for clean water, wastewater, drainage and associated civil engineering schemes. You will work closely with project managers, construction teams, clients, utilities and specialist contractors to ensure designs are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.

You will be responsible for producing and reviewing technical information throughout the project lifecycle, from early concept and detailed design through to construction support and completion. The role will suit an engineer who enjoys combining technical design expertise with site-based problem solving and stakeholder collaboration.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, check and coordinate civil engineering designs for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Develop drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules and technical reports in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys and investigations, identifying risks, constraints and opportunities for design improvement.
  • Provide technical support to construction teams, resolving design queries and assisting with site-based challenges.
  • Coordinate designs with structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental and temporary works disciplines.
  • Review contractor proposals, technical submissions and requests for information.
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety, environmental, quality and regulatory requirements.

About you

You will have experience in civil engineering design, ideally within the water, utilities or infrastructure sectors. A relevant degree or equivalent qualification is expected, together with knowledge of industry standards, construction methods and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar. Experience of working under the CDM Regulations and with technical assurance processes would be advantageous.

Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential. You should be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites may be required.
