Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater
We are seeking a Project Engineer specialising in water and wastewater to support the delivery of infrastructure projects from concept through to completion. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise across the design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases of projects involving treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, reservoirs and associated civil, mechanical, electrical and process systems. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants, regulators and clients to deliver safe, sustainable and high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing technical specifications, drawings, calculations, schedules, reports and project documentation; coordinating design activities and resolving technical issues; monitoring progress, quality, costs and programme performance; and supporting project managers with risk management, change control, procurement and contract administration. You will participate in site inspections, progress meetings, design reviews, commissioning activities and handover processes, ensuring that works comply with approved designs, relevant standards, environmental requirements, health and safety legislation and project objectives. The role may also involve assessing contractor submissions, reviewing method statements and overseeing testing and installation activities.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, mechanical, chemical or process engineering, together with relevant experience delivering water or wastewater infrastructure projects. A strong understanding of treatment processes, hydraulic principles, pipeline systems, construction practices and applicable technical standards is desirable. You will need excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and build effective relationships across project teams. Experience with engineering software, document control systems, risk registers and project reporting will be advantageous. Professional registration or active progress towards professional accreditation is welcomed. A commitment to quality, safety, sustainability and continuous improvement is essential, along with the flexibility to attend project sites when required.
