Bridge Project Manager
Bridge Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Bridge Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of bridge construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects from inception through to completion. This is an opportunity to manage technically demanding schemes that improve transport infrastructure and provide long-term value to local communities.
You will take responsibility for planning, coordinating and controlling projects across the full lifecycle, ensuring that work is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. Working closely with clients, designers, contractors, consultants and statutory authorities, you will provide clear leadership and maintain effective communication at every stage.
Key responsibilities
- Manage bridge projects from feasibility and design development through procurement, construction, handover and close-out.
- Prepare and maintain programmes, budgets, risk registers, change controls and project documentation.
- Coordinate design reviews, technical approvals, site activities, testing, commissioning and defect resolution.
- Monitor contractor performance, progress, costs, quality and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, escalating issues and implementing appropriate corrective action.
- Lead project meetings and provide accurate progress reports to senior stakeholders and project boards.
- Promote best practice in health and safety, environmental management, sustainability and quality assurance.
- Build positive working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, landowners, local authorities and members of the public.
About you
You will have demonstrable experience managing civil engineering or infrastructure projects, ideally involving bridges, structures, highways or other complex assets. A strong understanding of construction methods, contract management, design coordination and project controls is essential. Experience working under NEC or similar forms of contract would be advantageous.
You should be an organised and commercially aware professional with excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage competing priorities, make sound decisions and maintain a strong focus on safety and delivery is vital. A relevant degree or professional qualification in civil engineering, construction or project management is preferred, together with appropriate membership of a recognised professional body.
This role may involve regular travel to project sites and occasional attendance outside standard working hours. In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure projects while developing your career in a supportive and technically focused environment.
