Junior Construction Inspector - Highways & Bridges

We are seeking a Junior Construction Inspector – Highways & Bridges to support the delivery and maintenance of highway, bridge and related civil engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage of their career to develop practical inspection experience while working alongside experienced engineers, contractors and project teams. You will help ensure that construction activities are completed safely, to the required quality standards, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, programmes and relevant regulations.

Your responsibilities will include carrying out routine site inspections, recording progress, checking workmanship and materials, and identifying defects, non-conformances or potential delays. You will review construction activities such as earthworks, drainage, road construction, structural concrete, bridge repairs, surfacing, temporary works and traffic management. You will assist with measurements, site records, photographic evidence, inspection and test plans, and completion documentation. You may also support the monitoring of health and safety, environmental controls, public access arrangements and contractor compliance, escalating issues promptly to senior inspection or project staff.

The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification or practical experience in civil engineering, construction, highways, bridges or a related discipline. An understanding of construction methods, technical drawings, specifications and quality procedures is desirable, along with strong attention to detail and confidence using standard digital tools for reporting and record keeping. You should be organised, willing to work outdoors and on active construction sites, and able to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and members of the public. A proactive attitude, commitment to safe working practices and willingness to learn are essential. A valid driving licence may be required, depending on project locations.
