Senior Estimator
Senior Estimator
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of accurate, competitive and commercially sound tenders across a range of projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong estimating professional to take ownership of the pre-construction process, work closely with internal teams and contribute to the successful delivery of high-value work.
In this role, you will review tender documentation, assess project requirements and develop detailed cost plans from initial enquiry through to submission. You will be responsible for identifying risks, challenging assumptions and ensuring that all estimates reflect current market conditions, project specifications and programme requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and other tender information.
- Prepare accurate estimates, bills of quantities, cost plans and tender returns.
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and specialist contractors.
- Build effective relationships with project managers, commercial teams, clients and supply-chain partners.
- Identify commercial, technical and programme risks, recommending appropriate allowances and mitigations.
- Attend tender meetings, site visits and clarification discussions where required.
- Support value engineering, procurement planning and the handover of successful bids.
- Maintain clear records of estimating assumptions, revisions and tender correspondence.
- Assist with the development of junior estimators and contribute to improving estimating procedures.
About you
You will have substantial experience in a senior estimating position within construction, engineering or a related industry, with a strong understanding of project costs, procurement routes and contractual requirements. You should be confident interpreting technical information, analysing complex data and producing clear, well-supported tender submissions.
Strong commercial awareness, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines are essential. You will also need effective communication and negotiation skills, sound IT literacy and experience using estimating or cost-management software. A relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction, civil engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.
This role offers the opportunity to work on varied projects, influence bidding strategy and make a genuine contribution to business growth and project success.
