We are seeking an experienced Wastewater Plant Superintendent to lead the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a wastewater treatment facility. The successful candidate will oversee daily plant activities, ensure reliable treatment performance, and maintain a strong focus on environmental protection, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a practical, proactive leader who can manage operational priorities while developing a capable and engaged team.
Key responsibilities include supervising plant operators, coordinating shift coverage, assigning work, and monitoring performance against operational targets. You will oversee treatment processes, influent and effluent quality, chemical usage, sludge handling, equipment condition, and site housekeeping. The role will involve reviewing laboratory and process data, identifying issues, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining accurate operating records and reports. You will also coordinate preventative maintenance, work with contractors and technical specialists, support capital improvement projects, and respond effectively to alarms, equipment failures, and operational emergencies. Ensuring compliance with permits, safety procedures, environmental standards, and inspection requirements will be an essential part of the position.
Applicants should have substantial experience in wastewater treatment operations, including supervisory or management responsibility within a municipal, industrial, or comparable facility. A relevant qualification in water operations, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline is desirable, along with any required operator certification or licence. You will need sound knowledge of biological treatment processes, pumps, controls, disinfection systems, collection systems, and routine sampling and testing. Strong leadership, communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. The position may require shift work, on-call availability, and work in challenging outdoor and plant environments.
