EWI is supporting a major rail infrastructure programme in Denmark and is seeking an experienced Design Manager - CBTC Systems to join a high-profile project based in Copenhagen. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a complex, safety-critical rail signalling programme within one of Europe's most progressive and well-funded transport markets.
The OpportunityYou will take ownership of the design coordination and delivery of CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) systems, working across multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful integration across the wider rail systems environment.
This role offers a client/consultancy-side perspective, meaning you will be acting as a technical authority and interface between stakeholders, rather than purely contractor delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the design lifecycle for CBTC systems, from concept through to detailed design and implementationCoordinate interfaces between signalling, telecoms, rolling stock, power, and infrastructure systemsAct as a key technical liaison between client, consultants, contractors, and suppliersReview and validate design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and safety regulationsDrive system integration activities and support testing & commissioning phasesIdentify and mitigate design risks, ensuring delivery to programme timelines and budgetsProvide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and wider project teamsCandidate Profile7-15 years' experience within rail systems engineering, with a strong focus on signalling/CBTC systemsBroad, multidisciplinary systems background (e.g. signalling, telecoms, systems integration, rail infrastructure)Proven experience working on the client side or within a consultancy environmentStrong understanding of systems integration and interface management on complex rail projectsExperience with GoA4 (fully automated, unattended train operation) systems would be highly advantageousFamiliarity with European rail standards and safety processes is desirableExcellent stakeholder management and communication skillsDegree qualified in Engineering or a related fieldWhy Apply?Opportunity to work on a flagship European rail project in CopenhagenJoin a collaborative, forward-thinking project environmentCompetitive local Danish package, including strong benefits and work-life balanceCareer progression within a growing and internationally recognised project frameworkAbout EWIEWI is a specialist recruitment consultancy supporting the delivery of major infrastructure and engineering projects globally.
