We are seeking an experienced Earthwork Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of earthworks and associated civil construction activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating site operations, supervising crews and subcontractors, and ensuring that work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, programmes and environmental requirements. This role will suit a confident construction professional with strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of bulk excavation, cut and fill, grading, drainage preparation and ground improvement works.
Key responsibilities will include planning daily activities, allocating labour, plant and materials, monitoring productivity and maintaining accurate site records. You will interpret engineering drawings and survey information, coordinate activities with engineers, surveyors and other construction teams, and identify and resolve issues that may affect quality, safety or progress. You will also inspect completed works, support setting-out and level checks, manage interfaces with subcontractors, and contribute to short-term look-ahead planning and progress reporting. Maintaining effective communication with project management and the wider site team will be essential.
Applicants should have substantial experience supervising earthworks on major civil engineering, infrastructure, roads, utilities or similar construction projects. A strong working knowledge of excavation, compaction, moisture control, material classification, temporary works and heavy plant operations is required, along with the ability to read technical drawings and use site documentation systems. You will be expected to promote a positive health and safety culture, enforce safe systems of work and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and quality standards. A recognised construction qualification, site safety accreditation and experience working with digital reporting or surveying tools would be advantageous. The role requires flexibility, sound judgement and a willingness to work on active construction sites, including occasional extended hours or weekend shifts when project demands require.
