You will lead design reviews, value engineering workshops and constructability assessments, while ensuring that designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, health and safety requirements and environmental objectives. The role will also involve reviewing technical documentation, drawings, calculations and specifications, supporting procurement and construction teams, and maintaining effective communication with clients, stakeholders and project leadership. You will be expected to identify and resolve design issues promptly, manage change control and contribute to continuous improvement across project delivery.

Applicants should have substantial experience in design management within the water, wastewater, utilities, civil engineering or related infrastructure sectors. A relevant degree or professional qualification in civil, mechanical, electrical, process engineering or a similar discipline is desirable, along with a strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, networks and associated assets. Experience working within collaborative or design-and-build environments, managing supply chain partners and using common design and document-control systems is advantageous. Strong leadership, communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities and influence technical decisions. The role will also involve identifying and managing design risks, resolving technical issues, supporting value engineering, contributing to constructability reviews and maintaining effective change, document and quality-control processes. You will work closely with project managers, commercial teams and site personnel to ensure that design information is accurate, coordinated and issued on time.

Applicants should have substantial design management experience within the water, wastewater or wider infrastructure sector, together with a strong understanding of engineering design principles and project delivery. A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in civil, mechanical, electrical, process engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants is essential, as is the ability to interpret technical information and make sound, commercially aware decisions. Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills are required, along with confidence working in a regulated environment and managing competing priorities. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status would be advantageous.
