Our onshore wind client has a requirement for a freelance BOP Manager to oversea civil works for their WTG concrete tower assembly team.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and control project costs, ensuring delivery within approved budgets and identifying opportunities for optimisationOversee contract compliance throughout the civil works and site preparation phasesWork closely with site teams to develop and maintain detailed project schedules, resource plans and risk mitigation measuresEnsure all sites are adequately resourced in terms of personnel, equipment and materialsMonitor progress across multiple sites, prepare reporting and provide clear updates to internal and external stakeholdersSupport site supervisors in resolving construction issues, delays and technical challengesMaintain full compliance with health and safety, quality and environmental standards across all activitiesAct as a key link between site operations and internal departments during the construction and site readiness stages
Requirements
Degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experienceAt least 5 years' experience managing construction projects, ideally within wind energy, infrastructure or heavy civil worksStrong commercial awareness with proven experience in budget control and cost managementExperience in project planning, including scheduling, resource allocation and risk managementAbility to resolve issues effectively in a fast-paced construction environmentClear communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levelsGood understanding of wind farm construction activities, equipment and applicable standardsFamiliarity with project planning and cost control tools such as MS Project or PrimaveraValid driving licence and willingness to travel to site as requiredewi is committed to equality in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. ewi is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.

Role SummaryThe BOP Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of all Balance of Plant (BOP) activities associated with wind farm projects. This includes management of civil, electrical, and grid infrastructure works from development through commissioning and handover.
The role requires coordination with EPC contractors, OEMs, utilities, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with German and European standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject ManagementLead the execution of BOP scope for wind energy projects in Germany.Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and resource planning.Coordinate civil, electrical, and grid connection activities.Ensure compliance with project milestones and contractual obligations.Monitor contractor performance and oversee site progress.Engineering & Construction OversightSupervise:Roads and crane padsFoundationsInternal cablingSubstationsGrid connection infrastructureReview engineering deliverables and technical documentation.Coordinate interface management between turbine suppliers and BOP contractors.Stakeholder & Contractor ManagementLiaise with TSOs/DSOs, permitting authorities, landowners, and local municipalities.Manage EPC and subcontractor relationships.Lead project meetings and reporting with internal and external stakeholders.HSE & QualityEnsure adherence to German HSE regulations and company safety policies.Promote a strong safety culture across construction sites.Ensure QA/QC procedures are implemented and documented.Commercial & Contract ManagementSupport procurement and tendering activities.Review contracts, change orders, and claims.Track project costs and support financial forecasting.Commissioning & HandoverCoordinate testing and commissioning activities.Support grid compliance and energization processes.Ensure proper documentation and project close-out.Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or related field.5-10+ years of experience in renewable energy or infrastructure projects.Proven experience managing BOP scope for onshore and/or offshore wind projects.Strong knowledge of:Civil and electrical infrastructureHV/MV systemsGrid connection processes in GermanyGerman construction standards and permittingRequired SkillsStrong project management and leadership abilitiesExperience with EPC contract managementBudget and schedule control expertiseRisk management and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and stakeholder managementAbility to work in multicultural and international environmentsPreferred CertificationsProject Management Institute PMP CertificationPRINCE2NEBOSH or equivalent HSE certificationGerman language skills (preferred but not always mandatory)Familiarity with FIDIC contractsKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)On-time project deliveryBudget adherenceHSE performance metricsGrid connection readinessContractor performanceQuality and compliance targetsWorking ConditionsFrequent travel to wind farm construction sites across GermanyCombination of office, and on-site workOccasional international coordination with European teamsewi is committed to equality in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. ewi is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy.
