The leading infrastructure recruitment specialist is seeking an experienced Tunnel Design Manager to join a Swiss Consulting Engineer on an exciting construction project in the Norwegian Capital, Oslo.

This is a key role within a global engineering firm, managing tunnel design projects and leading small teams on high-profile infrastructure projects across Norway.

Responsibilities

  • Client Interface & Stakeholder Management: Lead discussions with clients, ensuring design alignment with project requirements.
  • Design Review & Fault Finding: Oversee and review tunnel designs to ensure they meet safety, efficiency, and construct-ability standards.
  • Construct-ability & Site Liaison: Work closely with site teams, updating and adapting designs based on real-time construction needs.
  • Full Design Process Management: Oversee tunnel design from early-stage planning through to construction, ensuring a seamless transition through all phases.
  • Collaboration with HQ Design Teams: Coordinate with our Swiss headquarters to maintain quality and consistency in design delivery.

Requirements

  • Language Proficiency: Candidates must have at least B2-level Norwegian fluency (almost fluent)
  • Experience: At least 7-8 years of experience working on relevant infrastructure projects, Rail, Tunnel, Highway (ideally in Norway)
  • Background: Strong design and management experience within the tunnelling sector. Some exposure to construction and construction design is a plus, but hands-on site experience alone is not sufficient.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive knowledge of tunnel design and construction methodologies, particularly drill & blast or conventional tunnelling.
    • Ability to manage design processes efficiently without necessarily being a hands-on designer performing modelling.
  • Client & Team Management:
    • Comfortable leading small design teams.
    • Strong interface with customers and subcontractors.
    • Experience working as a designer and sub-consultant on larger contracts.
