We are seeking a motivated Water-Wastewater Operator in Training to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of water treatment, wastewater treatment, and associated collection or distribution systems. This entry-level position is suited to someone who is eager to develop technical skills, work toward applicable operator certification, and contribute to the protection of public health and the environment. Training and practical guidance will be provided while you gain experience with treatment processes, equipment, regulatory requirements, and operational procedures.
Responsibilities will include monitoring plant and system conditions, recording meter readings, collecting and testing water or wastewater samples, and making routine process adjustments under the direction of qualified operators. You will assist with operating pumps, valves, chemical feed systems, tanks, filters, clarifiers, disinfection equipment, and related mechanical systems. The role may also involve inspecting facilities, responding to alarms, identifying abnormal conditions, performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance, maintaining accurate logs, and reporting equipment issues or process concerns promptly. You will follow established safety, environmental, and operating procedures, use personal protective equipment, and support emergency response activities when required.
Applicants should have a secondary school diploma or equivalent, a willingness to pursue relevant water or wastewater operator certification, and an interest in developing a career in utility operations. Previous experience in industrial, mechanical, environmental, laboratory, or maintenance work is an asset but not essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong communication and record-keeping skills are important, along with basic computer literacy and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The position requires physical ability to work outdoors and in industrial environments, climb stairs or ladders, lift equipment or materials safely, and work rotating shifts, weekends, standby periods, or in adverse weather when necessary. A valid driver’s licence may be required.
