We are seeking an experienced Water Operations Manager to lead the safe, efficient and reliable delivery of water and wastewater operations across a complex operational environment. The role will oversee day-to-day network, treatment, production and distribution activities, ensuring services meet regulatory, environmental, quality and customer standards. You will provide visible leadership to operational teams, promote a strong safety culture and ensure resources, equipment and processes are aligned with service priorities.

Key responsibilities will include managing operational performance, maintenance coordination, incident response, and planned and unplanned works. You will monitor water quality, supply resilience, plant and network performance, identifying risks and implementing effective improvement plans. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, permits, policies and industry standards, while maintaining accurate operational records and preparing reports for senior stakeholders. You will also contribute to emergency planning, business continuity and investigations into service interruptions, failures or non-conformances.

You will lead, coach and develop employees and contractors, creating a collaborative environment focused on accountability, continuous improvement and excellent service delivery. The role requires close working relationships with engineering, asset management, customer service, health and safety, environmental and regulatory teams, as well as external partners and authorities. Applicants should have substantial experience in water, wastewater, utilities or a similarly regulated operational setting, with proven success managing people, assets, risk and performance. A relevant technical or managerial qualification is desirable, along with knowledge of water industry legislation, operational health and safety requirements, incident management and performance improvement methodologies. Strong communication, decision-making, analytical and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to respond calmly and effectively in a changing, occasionally high-pressure environment. A valid driving licence and flexibility to participate in an out-of-hours or emergency response rota may be required.

This role will provide operational leadership across day-to-day service delivery, maintenance coordination, emergency response and continuous improvement. You will ensure that facilities perform reliably, regulatory requirements are met, and customers and communities receive safe, high-quality services.

Key responsibilities will include managing operational teams, supervisors and contractors; developing work plans, rosters, procedures and performance standards; monitoring plant and network performance; and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance with relevant technical teams. You will oversee water quality, wastewater treatment processes, sampling, reporting and environmental compliance, while identifying operational risks and implementing effective controls. The role will also involve managing incidents, investigating service interruptions, supporting emergency preparedness, maintaining accurate records and contributing to capital projects, asset planning and operational budgets. A strong focus on health, safety, environmental protection and consistent adherence to approved procedures will be essential.

Applicants should have substantial experience managing water or wastewater operations, ideally within a treatment, utilities, infrastructure or industrial environment. A relevant qualification in water operations, environmental management, engineering, science or a related discipline is desirable, together with a sound understanding of treatment processes, regulatory obligations, asset management and workplace health and safety requirements. You will be an effective people leader with the ability to coach teams, manage competing priorities and build productive relationships with regulators, contractors, technical specialists and community stakeholders. Strong communication, problem-solving, reporting and decision-making skills are required, along with the ability to participate in an on-call or emergency response roster when necessary.
