We are seeking an experienced Water Distribution System Supervisor to lead the safe, efficient and reliable operation of a water distribution network. The successful candidate will supervise field crews responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants, meters and related infrastructure. You will coordinate daily work activities, allocate resources, monitor progress and ensure that planned and emergency works are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes.
Key responsibilities include responding to water leaks, bursts, outages and service issues; reviewing network conditions and prioritising corrective work; overseeing excavation, repairs, reinstatement and traffic management arrangements; and ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with approved procedures, technical standards and environmental requirements. You will maintain accurate records, work orders, asset information and incident reports, and contribute to preventative maintenance programmes and capital improvement projects. The role will also involve liaising with customers, contractors, utility providers and internal stakeholders, providing clear updates and resolving operational issues promptly.
Applicants should have relevant experience in water distribution, utilities, civil construction or a closely related field, together with proven supervisory or team leadership experience. A sound understanding of water network operations, workplace health and safety, confined-space procedures, excavation practices and quality control is essential. The ability to read plans and technical drawings, use maintenance or asset management systems, and make sound decisions in emergency situations will be highly valued. A relevant trade qualification, technical certificate or equivalent practical experience is desirable, along with a valid driving licence. You will be organised, safety-focused and physically capable of working outdoors in varying conditions, with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering dependable public services.
