An experienced Track Construction Team Leader is required to lead and coordinate teams delivering safe, high-quality track construction, renewal and maintenance works. You will take responsibility for supervising on-site activities, allocating resources and ensuring work is completed efficiently, within programme and to the required technical standards. The role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors and other site teams to support the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects.
Your duties will include briefing and managing track construction teams, reviewing work plans and method statements, monitoring progress and maintaining accurate site records. You will ensure that all activities comply with approved designs, industry standards, relevant railway rules and health and safety legislation. You will also carry out inspections, identify potential hazards, resolve issues on site and stop work where necessary to protect colleagues, passengers, contractors and the public. The role may include supervising rail, sleepers, ballast, points, drainage, formation and associated civil engineering works, as well as coordinating plant, materials and access arrangements.
Applicants should have substantial experience in railway track construction, renewal or maintenance, with proven experience leading a team in a safety-critical environment. A sound understanding of track installation methods, construction sequencing, quality control and safe systems of work is essential. Relevant rail competencies and qualifications, together with appropriate site safety certification, are required; supervisory or team leadership training would be advantageous. You will need strong communication and organisational skills, the confidence to make decisions under pressure and a commitment to maintaining high standards. The role may involve night work, weekends, travel between sites and working in challenging weather and operational conditions. A practical, proactive approach and the ability to motivate others are essential.
