We are seeking an experienced Solar Construction Manager to lead the delivery of utility-scale and commercial solar photovoltaic projects from mobilisation through to completion. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards. This role will involve coordinating site operations, managing contractors and subcontractors, and maintaining effective communication with project stakeholders, suppliers and engineering teams.
Responsibilities will include developing and monitoring construction programmes, coordinating civil, structural, electrical and mechanical works, and ensuring all activities comply with approved designs, specifications, permits and relevant regulations. You will manage site resources, materials, plant and equipment; review method statements and risk assessments; lead progress meetings; and track project milestones, costs, variations and potential risks. You will also oversee inspections, testing, documentation, punch-list activities and handover, working closely with commissioning teams to support successful energisation and completion. Maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental protection and quality will be a central part of the position.
Candidates should have proven experience managing solar, renewable energy or complex construction projects, with a strong understanding of photovoltaic systems, electrical infrastructure and construction sequencing. A relevant qualification in construction management, engineering or a related discipline is desirable, together with experience leading multidisciplinary teams and external contractors. Strong planning, problem-solving, negotiation and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interpret technical drawings, programmes and commercial information. Familiarity with construction management software and standard health and safety requirements would be advantageous. This role will coordinate technical, commercial, and operational inputs to create accurate, competitive, and buildable project plans. You will work closely with development, engineering, procurement, construction, finance, and external partners to evaluate project feasibility, define scopes of work, manage schedules, and support successful project handover.
Key responsibilities include reviewing bid invitations, site information, designs, geotechnical reports, interconnection requirements, permits, and contract documents; identifying project risks, constraints, and value-engineering opportunities; and coordinating estimates, budgets, schedules, logistics plans, construction methodologies, and subcontractor proposals. You will manage preconstruction activities and deliverables, maintain clear communication with stakeholders, lead meetings, track action items, and ensure decisions are documented. The role will also support procurement and subcontractor engagement, review technical submissions, contribute to contract negotiations, and prepare clear presentations and recommendations for internal and external audiences. Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry events may be required.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing preconstruction, estimating, engineering, or project development activities within the solar, renewable energy, electrical, civil construction, or related infrastructure sectors. Strong knowledge of solar project delivery, construction sequencing, cost control, scheduling, procurement, and risk management is essential. A degree or equivalent professional experience in construction management, engineering, project management, or a related discipline is preferred.
