The Site Engineer (Supervisor) - Bridges is responsible for supporting the Construction Director and Production Manager in the successful planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of bridge construction activities. The role ensures that works are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards while maintaining compliance with contractual, technical, and HSE requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & CoordinationManage and supervise site personnel and subcontractors engaged in bridge construction activities.Conduct employee discussions, provide guidance, and support team development.Promote a positive and collaborative working environment.Maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)Ensure compliance with company and project-specific HSE requirements.Promote a strong safety culture among employees and subcontractors.Identify and mitigate risks associated with bridge construction works.Participate in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.Planning & Resource ManagementDevelop detailed activity plans aligned with project schedules and contractual obligations.Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.Monitor productivity and resource utilisation to ensure efficient project delivery.Support construction sequencing and work methodology development for bridge structures.Construction SupervisionOversee bridge construction activities including foundations, substructures, superstructures, decks, bearings, expansion joints, and associated civil works.Ensure all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.Monitor site progress and report performance against project milestones.Identify technical challenges and coordinate effective solutions with the engineering team.Stakeholder & Department CoordinationLiaise with Technical, Procurement, Cost Control, Contracts, HSE, Quality, and Permit Departments to achieve project objectives.Coordinate with consultants, local authorities, and project partners as required.Assist the Construction Director with organisational and operational tasks.Subcontractor ManagementIdentify and engage potential subcontractors for bridge construction works.Assess subcontractor's technical capability, capacity, and performance.Monitor subcontractor compliance with project requirements and safety standards.Key CompetenciesPersonal AttributesStrong leadership skillsResults-oriented mindsetHigh level of integrity and professionalismExcellent verbal communication skillsStrong problem-solving abilities and initiativeEffective time management skillsAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesTechnical CompetenciesStrong knowledge of bridge construction methods and engineering practicesUnderstanding of construction sequencing, temporary works, and structural systemsFamiliarity with quality assurance and quality control proceduresKnowledge of construction contracts and project delivery processesExperienceMinimum 5 year's experience in the construction industry.Proven experience on large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably involving bridge construction, highways, rail, or major civil engineering works. EducationBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification. Language RequirementsThe Site Engineer (Supervisor) - Bridges operates within the Construction Department and provides direct support to project management by ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of bridge construction works while assisting the Construction Director with coordination and organisational responsibilities
