We are seeking a Senior Track Engineer to provide technical leadership across the development, maintenance, renewal and upgrade of rail track infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of engineering works, supporting projects from early concept and design through to construction, testing, commissioning and handover. This role will involve working closely with project managers, designers, contractors, maintenance teams and operational stakeholders to ensure that all solutions meet required technical, safety, quality and performance standards.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing track engineering designs, specifications, calculations, reports and technical submissions; developing renewal and maintenance strategies; and providing expert advice on track alignment, geometry, permanent way systems, points and crossings, drainage, rail interfaces and construction methodologies. You will undertake technical assurance and design reviews, assess risks and non-conformances, support investigations into track defects or incidents, and recommend effective corrective actions. The role will also involve contributing to cost estimates, programmes, procurement documentation and work packages, as well as providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, railway engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in track engineering within a rail or comparable infrastructure environment. A strong understanding of relevant standards, regulations, engineering assurance processes, construction practices and safe systems of work is essential. Experience with track design and analysis software, asset management principles and multidisciplinary project delivery would be advantageous. You should be able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage competing priorities and make sound, evidence-based decisions. Professional registration or demonstrable progress towards it is desirable. The role requires a proactive, collaborative approach, strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement, safety and engineering excellence.
