Key responsibilities include overseeing the preparation and review of detailed cost estimates, pricing strategies, budgets, and tender submissions; establishing estimating methodologies, templates, procedures, and performance measures; and ensuring that assumptions, exclusions, risks, allowances, and escalation factors are clearly documented. You will review scope, drawings, specifications, schedules, quantities, supplier quotations, and market data to identify cost drivers and opportunities for value optimisation. The role will also involve participating in bid reviews, presenting estimates to senior stakeholders, supporting negotiations, and maintaining accurate cost databases and historical benchmarks. You will monitor estimating performance, promote continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with relevant contractual, regulatory, safety, quality, and ethical requirements.

Applicants should have substantial experience in estimating, cost planning, or commercial management within a complex project environment, together with a proven track record of leading teams and managing multiple priorities. Strong knowledge of construction, engineering, infrastructure, or comparable delivery models is highly desirable, along with the ability to interpret technical documentation and translate project requirements into reliable cost outcomes. You will bring excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence engaging at all levels. Relevant tertiary qualifications in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering, finance, or a related discipline are preferred. This role will provide strategic direction, technical expertise, and accurate cost advice across a diverse portfolio of developments, including ground-up construction, renovations, and complex urban projects. The successful candidate will be a confident construction professional who can combine detailed analysis with strong client, consultant, and subcontractor relationships.

Responsibilities will include reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes, and project requirements; developing conceptual, schematic, design development, and detailed estimates; preparing budgets, cost plans, bid packages, and value-engineering recommendations; and identifying risks, exclusions, allowances, and opportunities throughout the preconstruction process. You will coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, project managers, and trade partners to clarify design intent, improve constructability, and establish realistic pricing and schedules. The role will also oversee subcontractor solicitation, bid leveling, scope comparison, negotiations, and final estimate reconciliation, while maintaining clear documentation and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders. You may also be involved in procurement strategy, feasibility studies, market analysis, and mentoring estimators and preconstruction team members.

Applicants should bring substantial experience in commercial and/or multifamily construction estimating, preconstruction management, or a similar senior-level role. Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, cost control, contract documents, building systems, and current labor and material market conditions is essential. Experience with estimating and project management software, digital takeoff tools, spreadsheets, and document collaboration platforms is expected. A degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related discipline is preferred, although equivalent practical experience will be considered. Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and presentation skills are required, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and make sound commercial decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Strong knowledge of estimating principles, project controls, contracts, procurement and cost management is essential, as is the ability to interpret technical documentation and communicate commercial information clearly. You will be highly organised, analytical and commercially focused, with sound judgement, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders. Relevant qualifications in construction management, quantity surveying, engineering, finance or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
