As a specialist infrastructure recruiter, I am working in partnership with a leading international engineering consultancy to appoint a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for their Colorado office.

This opportunity sits within a high-performing geotechnical team delivering technically complex mining, tailings, water resources, and renewable energy infrastructure projects across North America.

The Opportunity

Our client is recognised for delivering rigorous, technically sound solutions across major earthworks and water-retaining infrastructure programmes. Due to sustained growth within mining and tailings portfolios, they are seeking an experienced geotechnical professional capable of leading investigations, executing advanced analyses, and supporting projects through design and construction.

The core project focus will be tailings storage facilities, with additional exposure to:

Water dams and hydraulic structures

Heap leach pads

Mine waste rock dumps

Heavily loaded structural foundations

Renewable energy and hydropower-related earthworks

This role combines technical leadership, project coordination, client interface responsibilities, and mentorship of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate geotechnical site investigations and laboratory testing programmes

Direct and manage fieldwork activities

Interpret in-situ testing data and laboratory results to define soil and rock parameters

Perform geotechnical analyses including slope stability, seepage, settlement, and foundation design

Develop design recommendations for dams, impoundments, excavations, foundations, pipelines, spillways, and penstock anchorages

Prepare and review clear, accurate technical reports, drawings, and specifications

Review project documentation to define technical scope, budgets, and schedules

Provide construction-phase technical support

Act as primary technical liaison with clients

Mentor junior staff and uphold quality and delivery standards

Contribute to business development and proposal support across mining, hydropower, and water sectors

Candidate Profile

Master's degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical specialisation)

Minimum 10 years' experience in the design and construction of mining and/or tailings facilities

Professional Engineer (PE) registration

Strong applied understanding of geotechnical engineering principles

Required technical capability:

MS Office

Work Environment

The role involves a combination of office-based engineering and field-based site work. Travel to project sites will be required. Compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental standards is mandatory.
