We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to support the successful delivery of major construction projects from early design through to completion. Working as part of a collaborative project and commercial management team, you will provide expert cost advice, maintain financial control and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with agreed objectives.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and managing cost plans, budgets, estimates and forecasts; reviewing designs and identifying cost-saving opportunities; administering procurement and tendering processes; analysing bids and making recommendations; and preparing accurate commercial reports for project stakeholders. You will monitor expenditure, cash flow, commitments, variations, compensation events and change control, while assessing risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies. The role will also involve managing valuations, payment applications, final accounts and contract correspondence, as well as supporting the resolution of commercial issues and disputes. You will work closely with designers, contractors, project managers and client representatives to maintain effective communication and promote sound commercial decision-making.
Applicants should have substantial experience in cost management or quantity surveying within the construction or wider built environment sector, ideally gained on complex, high-value projects. A strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement routes, cost planning, estimating and commercial reporting is essential. Experience with contract administration, risk management, value engineering and change management will be highly valued. You should be commercially astute, analytical and confident working with financial data, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A relevant degree or professional qualification is preferred, together with membership of an appropriate professional body or active progress towards chartership. Strong organisational skills, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities are required.
