We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer – Wastewater to lead the planning, design and delivery of complex wastewater infrastructure projects. This role will involve providing technical expertise across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning. You will work on projects involving wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, rising mains, gravity sewers, storage facilities and associated civil infrastructure.
Key responsibilities will include managing civil engineering packages, preparing and reviewing technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and schedules, and ensuring that designs meet relevant legislation, industry standards and client requirements. You will coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, environmental and geotechnical specialists, while working closely with contractors, suppliers, regulators and other stakeholders. The role will also involve supporting project planning, cost estimation, risk management, tender preparation, construction supervision and technical problem-solving. You may be required to mentor junior engineers, review deliverables and contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards and project processes.
Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering or a related discipline and have substantial professional experience delivering wastewater or water infrastructure projects. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status is desirable. You will need strong knowledge of wastewater engineering principles, hydraulic and civil design, construction methods, health and safety requirements, and applicable technical standards. Experience with design software and tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modelling packages or equivalent systems will be advantageous. Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills are essential, along with the ability to lead technical work, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed budgets and programmes. We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with a civil engineering background and substantial experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to lead complex programmes from initial feasibility and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. The successful candidate will manage projects safely, efficiently and to agreed standards for quality, cost, programme and environmental performance.
You will take overall responsibility for project delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, consultants, suppliers and client representatives. Key duties will include developing and managing project execution plans, budgets, schedules, risk registers and change-control processes; monitoring progress and financial performance; resolving technical and commercial issues; and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, specifications, health and safety requirements and environmental commitments. You will lead project meetings, prepare clear reports for senior stakeholders, manage procurement and contract administration, and maintain strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle. The role may also involve mentoring project managers and engineers, supporting business development, contributing to bids and identifying opportunities to improve delivery methods and operational efficiency.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline, with significant experience managing major water, wastewater or civil infrastructure schemes. A recognised project or programme management qualification and professional engineering accreditation would be advantageous. You will need strong knowledge of construction methods, design coordination, commercial controls, risk management and relevant contract forms.
