We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of bridge construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects from initial planning through to completion. This role will involve managing projects of varying scale and complexity, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to coordinate all aspects of project delivery and maintain strong professional relationships.
Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining project programmes, budgets, risk registers and procurement plans; coordinating design development and technical approvals; monitoring progress and resolving issues; and preparing regular reports for senior stakeholders. You will oversee site operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety, environmental and quality requirements, as well as relevant construction standards and contractual obligations. The role will also involve managing variations, valuations, change control, commercial performance and project documentation, while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk. You will provide leadership to project teams and promote a collaborative, accountable and safety-focused working environment.
Applicants should have proven experience managing civil engineering or structures projects, ideally with a background in bridges, highways or related infrastructure. A strong understanding of construction methods, structural works, temporary works, health and safety legislation, contract administration and project controls is essential. Experience working under NEC or similar forms of contract would be advantageous. You should be confident managing competing priorities, negotiating with stakeholders and making sound decisions under pressure. Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are required, together with a relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline. Professional membership or a recognised project management qualification would be desirable. A full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites may also be required.
