We are seeking a National Water Treatment Technical Expert to provide technical leadership and specialist guidance across water and wastewater treatment operations. The role will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of treatment strategies, ensuring that systems operate safely, efficiently, sustainably and in accordance with applicable legislation, permits and industry standards. You will work with operational, engineering, environmental and commercial teams to resolve complex technical issues and deliver reliable treatment performance across multiple sites.
Key responsibilities will include assessing treatment processes, identifying performance improvements and developing practical recommendations for assets, equipment and operating procedures. You will provide expert input into the design, commissioning, optimisation and troubleshooting of water treatment facilities, including chemical dosing, coagulation, clarification, filtration, disinfection, sludge handling and process monitoring systems. The role will also involve reviewing technical specifications, supporting capital investment projects, analysing operational data and leading investigations into compliance, quality or performance issues. You will develop standards, guidance and training materials, promote consistent best practice nationally and contribute to risk assessments, audits and emergency response planning.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in water or wastewater treatment, with a strong understanding of treatment technologies, process control, regulatory requirements and operational risk management. A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in water engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline is required. Experience delivering technical projects, interpreting complex data and influencing stakeholders at all levels will be essential. You should be confident working independently, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, and travelling to operational sites as required. Knowledge of sustainability, energy efficiency, resource recovery and emerging treatment technologies would be advantageous. This is an opportunity to shape technical standards, strengthen operational capability and help deliver resilient, high-quality water treatment services nationwide.
