An experienced Senior Estimator is required to support the successful delivery of major heavy civil engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional to lead the preparation of accurate, competitive and technically robust estimates across a varied project portfolio.
Working closely with pre-construction, engineering, procurement and commercial teams, you will take ownership of estimates from early feasibility through to tender submission. You will interpret drawings, specifications and contract information, identify project risks and develop clear pricing strategies that support sound commercial decisions.
Key responsibilities Prepare detailed estimates, cost plans, budgets and tender submissions for heavy civil engineering works. Review drawings, scopes, specifications and bills of quantities to establish accurate project requirements. Obtain, assess and negotiate quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors. Develop resource, plant, materials and labour rates, including detailed build-ups and productivity assumptions. Identify risks, opportunities, exclusions and allowances, ensuring these are clearly documented. Collaborate with project teams to develop construction methodologies, programmes and sequencing assumptions. Present estimates and tender recommendations to senior stakeholders, explaining key commercial considerations. Maintain up-to-date cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems. About youYou will have substantial estimating experience within heavy civil engineering, infrastructure, highways, utilities, earthworks, structures or related sectors. A strong understanding of construction methods, supply chain pricing and project cost drivers is essential, together with the ability to manage several tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
Applicants should be confident using estimating software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and be comfortable working with digital drawings and technical documentation. A relevant qualification in civil engineering, quantity surveying, construction management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
What is offeredYou will join a collaborative pre-construction environment offering challenging projects, professional development and the opportunity to influence major civil engineering bids from the outset. A competitive salary and benefits package will be provided, commensurate with experience.
