We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead the preparation, coordination and review of cost estimates for a range of construction and infrastructure projects. This role will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive and commercially sound estimates from initial concept through to tender submission and contract award. You will work closely with project managers, procurement teams, designers, subcontractors and senior stakeholders to ensure that all cost information is complete, clearly documented and aligned with project requirements.
Key responsibilities will include reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation; preparing detailed quantity take-offs and pricing schedules; obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations; identifying project risks, exclusions, assumptions and potential cost-saving opportunities; and maintaining accurate estimating records and databases. You will lead tender reviews, challenge pricing where appropriate, support negotiations and present estimates and recommendations to senior decision-makers. The role will also involve mentoring estimators, improving estimating procedures, monitoring market conditions and contributing to the development of standard rates, cost plans and forecasting tools.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a senior estimating role within the construction, engineering or infrastructure sector, with a strong understanding of procurement methods, construction methodologies, contract conditions and commercial risk. You will be highly capable of interpreting technical documentation, using estimating and cost-management software, and producing clear and accurate reports under tight deadlines. Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, together with excellent communication and negotiation abilities. A relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. The ability to lead a team, manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy throughout the tender process will be critical to success.
