Role Summary

During the project installation/finishing phase you have the responsibility to supervise and control mainly but not only the electrical works executed at site by the subcontractor in matter of:
Fulfillment and respect of the HSE requirement at site and to intervene should the requirements not be respected or fulfilled
Quantity and quality of the electrical work in accordance with the related instructions
Timely completion of the work to ensure a proper commissioning of the wind turbine

Essential Responsibilities:

Give guidance to the subcontracted parties involved in installation and finishingCheck of proper electrical installationsInitiate corrective actions aimed to eliminate defects and to be executed by the subcontractorControl of correctness and completeness of site related reportsCollect and forward technical specificationsReport the status of site activitiesExecution of the quality check on site including reportingActive participation at the site meeting on site (toolbox talk)Notification of defective or missing parts to the site manager with the purpose of replacement of these parts

Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:

Renewable Energy - Project Manager - Cape Town

A leading South African renewable energy project developer and delivery platform is seeking a Project Manager with a proven track record of at least 10 years post-graduate experience in the delivery of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. The role will be based in Cape Town and will involve managing the delivery of Wind or Solar PV energy projects across South Africa.

Currently, 500MW of projects are secured under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with private offtakers and are financed through a limited recourse project finance structure. Additional projects are expected to be secured through government tenders and private offtake agreements in the short to medium term.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Manager will be a key part of the Procurement and Construction Management team, responsible for delivering Wind and Solar PV projects from Financial Close to Commercial Operation Date (COD) and beyond. Responsibilities include:

Managing day-to-day aspects of OEM Supply & Installation and EPC Contracts with the support of the Owner's Engineer (OE) and other service providers.Assisting in drafting and tracking Contract Notifications, Claims, and Variation Orders in line with project timelines.Scheduling and chairing monthly project progress meetings and other ad hoc meetings.Managing ad hoc service providers for specific project tasks.Working alongside the OE in commissioning and receipt of the facility from the OEM and/or EPC Contractors.Overseeing the handover to the O&M Contractor and ensuring successful bringing into service.Managing the close-out of Supply and Install and EPC Contracts after the Defects Notification Period (DNP).

EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

BSc Engineering degree/diploma (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) OR BSc Building Science/Quantity Surveying degree/diploma.Minimum of 10 years' experience in a contract/project management environment, with at least 3 years in construction management of large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.Renewable energy experience is a strong advantage.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.Ability to understand and implement construction contracts.Proven programme, construction, and contract management experience.Experience in writing contractual communications.Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.High levels of enthusiasm, motivation, and proactive decision-making.Technical competence and strong administrative skills.Ability to prioritize between daily problem-solving and long-term project objectives.

About the Opportunity

We are currently supporting the appointment of a Construction Director for a major renewable energy infrastructure project in South Africa. This is a high-impact position leading construction delivery on a utility-scale project, overseeing EPC contractors and interfacing with all key stakeholders including the Offtaker, local authorities, and project partners.

Key Responsibilities

Lead site-based construction execution across multiple EPC and key equipment suppliers.

Ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to required HSE and quality standards.

Champion HSSE culture across the Owner's Team and Project Company.

Direct and manage Owner's Engineer during design, construction and commissioning.

Monitor contractor performance, mitigate delays, and ensure contract compliance.

Act as Single Point of Contact for site-level coordination across all stakeholders.

Lead weekly/monthly reporting, integrate project schedules (Primavera/MS Project).

Oversee commissioning, milestone certifications, testing and handover to O&M.

Liaise with lenders, off-takers, and government stakeholders.

Manage project office operations and interface with local communities.

Ensure all economic development and social performance commitments are met.

Required Experience & Qualifications

Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.

10-15 years' experience on utility-scale power generation projects.

Proven leadership of EPC construction and commissioning on large infrastructure.

Extensive knowledge of renewable energy plant construction and interfaces.

Skilled in contract/claim management, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

Strong familiarity with project finance structures, PPA terms, and construction contracts.

Proficient in Primavera, MS Project, and standard office software.

Key Skills & Competencies

Confident dealing with complex contractor negotiations and issue resolution.

Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement.

Able to manage multi-disciplinary teams and drive results under pressure.

Familiarity with international standards and best practices in construction.

High ethical standards and culturally aware team leadership.

Other Information

Role based on-site in Northern Cape / Free State.

Travel within Africa and internationally may be required.
