We are seeking an experienced Road Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of road construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. The successful candidate will coordinate daily field operations, supervise crews and subcontractors, and ensure that all work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards. This role requires a practical leader who can manage competing priorities, make sound decisions in the field, and maintain a strong focus on safety, productivity, and workmanship.
Key responsibilities include planning labour, equipment, materials, and site activities; assigning tasks and monitoring progress; interpreting drawings, specifications, and work schedules; and coordinating with project managers, engineers, inspectors, suppliers, utility representatives, and other stakeholders. You will conduct regular site inspections, identify and resolve construction issues, maintain accurate daily records, and contribute to progress reporting and cost control. The role will also involve enforcing health and safety procedures, environmental requirements, traffic management plans, and applicable legislation. You will be expected to promote a positive team culture, coach employees, address performance concerns, and ensure that equipment and work areas are maintained in a safe and efficient condition.
Applicants should have substantial experience supervising roadworks, civil construction, or infrastructure maintenance projects, together with a strong understanding of grading, paving, drainage, excavation, asphalt, aggregate, and winter maintenance operations. Formal training or qualifications in civil construction, engineering technology, construction management, or a related discipline are advantageous. A valid driving licence and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are required. Strong communication, organisational, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential, as is the flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or emergency call-outs when project requirements demand. Experience with construction documentation, scheduling systems, and quality or safety management processes will be highly regarded.
