We are seeking a Water Treatment Plant Design Engineer to develop safe, efficient and sustainable solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities. The role will involve taking projects from initial concept and feasibility through detailed design, procurement support, construction and commissioning. You will work closely with process, mechanical, electrical, civil and environmental specialists to ensure that plant designs meet technical, regulatory, operational and commercial requirements.
Key responsibilities include preparing design calculations, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, layouts, technical reports and construction documentation. You will assess treatment processes, hydraulic performance, pumping systems, pipelines, tanks, filtration, disinfection and sludge-handling requirements, selecting suitable equipment and technologies for each application. The position will also involve reviewing contractor and supplier submissions, supporting tender evaluations, participating in design reviews, responding to site queries and contributing to commissioning and performance testing. You will be expected to identify design risks, maintain technical quality, and ensure that health, safety, environmental and sustainability considerations are integrated throughout each project.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, chemical, mechanical or environmental engineering, with demonstrable experience in the design of water or wastewater treatment infrastructure. Knowledge of relevant design standards, environmental regulations, asset management principles and industry best practice is essential. Experience with hydraulic modelling, process simulation, technical documentation and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar tools would be advantageous. You should be able to interpret complex technical information, solve problems methodically and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, contractors and suppliers. Professional registration or progress towards professional accreditation is desirable. A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are essential for success in this role.
